At Mesta 'vota' was called the ground floor part of the house which, because of its perfect natural air conditioning had stable temperature, and was mainly used as a storage area for agricultural products and food (wine, oil, mastic, suma etc.)

Householders in a typical house of Mesta, were living in the upper level. The ground level used to be separated in two spaces for each household. Half was used as a storage area and the other half for the domestic animals.

Passing through the central entrance of the village, right before the entrance of Vota Studio, on the left side a part of the defence trench of the castle still exists. This used to join the five Towers of Mesta, so the communication when in need of defence could be direct.
